LV: Solveiga Setemsdāla "LABI NORIJ LIELISKI" [Tikšanās ar mākslinieku]  [Tūre ar kuratoru pēc pieprasījuma]

Izstāde “LABI NORIJ LIELISKI” ir video instalācija, kurā fiziskā pasaule satiekas ar digitālo. Izstādē reāli video kadri tiek pretstatīti Google 3D algoritmiskām vizualizācijām, ko papildina teksts, kas caurdur membrānas starp abām realitātes versijām, atklājot starp tām notiekošos procesus. Video tika uzņemti izpētes brauciena laikā Kalifornijas tuksnešos, kur māksliniece pētīja cilvēku radītas struktūras, kas aiztur ūdeni.

Māksliniece sekoja ūdens ceļiem un Kolorado upei, kuras mākslīgi veidoto irigācijas kanālu pārplūšana 20. gs. Saltona baseinā radīja Saltona jūru. Gan Kolorado upe, gan Saltona jūra mūsdienās ir ļoti piesārņotas, jo tajās ieplūst tuvējo lauksaimniecību notekūdeņi, kas satur mēslojumu, smagos metālus un toksīnus. Ar ūdeni apgādājot lielāko daļu ASV dienvidrietumu, gan Kolorado upe, gan ezers izžūst un vējš nes prom izžuvušās, sausās un toksiskās ezera gultnes smiltis. Māksliniece pretstata šīs ekoloģiskās katastrofas skartās zonas ar netālu esošajām turīgajām oāzēm, ko piepilda mākslīgas, cilvēku veidotas struktūras.

Teksts mākslas darbā veido gan saikni, gan disonansi starp abu veidu video kadriem, “ieejot” un “izejot” no reālās un virtuālās pasaules. Videoklipi nav sinhronizēti, ļaujot veidoties jaunām saiknēm un nozīmēm starp vārdiem un attēliem katrā video cilpā.

OK SWALLOW GREAT explores the connections and disconnections of physical and digital realities. Real footage is juxtaposed with Google 3D algorithmic visualizations, and the membranes between these are pierced through text, interrogating what happens between these versions of reality. The film was shot during a research trip looking at man-made structures bracketing water in the deserts of California.

The artist followed the waterways and the Colorado River, whose man-made irrigation canals overflowed in the 20th century into the Salton Basin creating the Salton Sea. Both the Colorado River and the Salton Sea are heavily polluted today, with runoff from nearby farms containing fertilizers, heavy metals and toxins. With water supplying much of the southwestern US, both the Colorado River and the lake are drying up and the wind is carrying away the dried-up and toxic sand of the lake bed. The artist contrasts these ecological disaster zones with the wealthy oases nearby, filled with man-made structures.

The text in the artwork provides links and distortions between footage, delving in and out of the real and the virtual. The videos are unsynchronised, allowing new connections to form between word and image at every loop.
